Instructions for Taking the Oral English Proficiency Test for Visiting Scholars (OEPT-VS) for J-1 Visiting Scholars As a prospective J-1 visiting scholar one of the ways you can proof your English proficiency is to take the Oral English Proficiency Test for Visiting Scholars (OEPT-VS). The test is available year round. There are three major steps to taking the OEPT-VS: 1. Pay for the test. 2. Register for the test. 3. Access the test. How to Pay for the Test In order to take the OEPT-VS you must first pay a $50.00 application/assessment fee. Go to https://secure.touchnet.net/C21575_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=22&SINGLESTORE=true Click the button “Oral English Proficiency Test for Visiting Scholars”. Fill in the required information to complete the payment process. After you make the payment, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address you provide during registration. How to Register for the Test To register for the test you must send an email to the CESL Testing Office at: [email protected]. In your email please including the following: 1.

Your full name (Last, First)

UC M number

3.

UC username (6+2)

4.

Your payment confirmation email (as an attachment)

5.

Host department contact information (name and email address)

The test you need (OEPT-VS) You will receive an email within 2 business days with instructions to taking the test. If you have any questions, please contact the CESL Testing Office (513-556-3590; [email protected]).

The OEPT-VS will determine whether or not you are eligible to come to UC as a visiting scholar. ==== How to take OEPT-VS ======== You are now enrolled to CESL-Oral English Proficiency Test on UC Canopy & Blackboard. Please log in to Canopy & Blackboard (https://canopy.uc.edu/webapps/portal/frameset.jsp). You should be able to see CESL-Oral English Proficiency Test under My Organizations. If you do not

know how to access Blackboard, please go to http://cech.uc.edu/centers/cesl/placement_tests/OEPT-VS.html for instruction. Once you access the Blackboard page, you will find all the necessary information on the Overview page. Please read the instructions carefully and start the test as soon as possible. Your sponsoring department at UC will provide you with your Central Login details. You will be assigned a UC username and a temporary password. Before proceeding with registering for the OEPT-VS test you MUST setup your Password Self Service (PSS) profile. University of Cincinnati’s Password Self Service tool will have you change your temporary password to a permanent password, and allow you to recover your password in the future if your password is ever lost. Once your Password Self Service profile has been completed and you’ve created a new password, you will be ready to log in to UC’s online resources and take the OEPT-VS test. Login in using your username and temporary password (Uc! Plus your date of birth-Uc!12181964). If you do not remember your current password, you will need to call the IT@UC Service Desk at 513-556HELP (4357) to have your "Central Login" password reset.

Complete the Profile Information section. Enter a personal email and a US cell phone number. If you don’t have a US cell phone number the 513-556-000 is pre-populated. Just click the update button.

Once you have confirmed, you should then be given message that your profile setup was successful! Click the “continue” button.

You will now be prompted to change your password. Follow the instructions on creating the password and click the “change password” button. Please write the new password down so you remember it when logging in to the OEPT-VS test.

You will be prompted that the update of the password has been successful. Click the continue button.

This will bring you to the main menu. From here you can enter the URL https://canopy.uc.edu/webapps/portal/execute/tabs/tabAction?tab_tab_group_id=_302_1 in the browser field.

Once you have done this you can then go to https://canopy.uc.edu/webapps/portal/execute/tabs/tabAction?tab_tab_group_id=302_1. You will be prompted to enter your username and newly created password.

When you login you will be brought to the Global Navigation menu for blackboard. Click the “I’ll do it later” button.

From there you will be able to click on “My Organizations”. There you will see the CESL – Oral English Proficiency Test link. Click on that link.

Now you are in the OEPT-VS test site. Click on the link “Overview” on the left of the page. Please review the information on this page (Welcome, Procedures, and Technology Requirements). Then click on OEPT-VS on the left toolbar under Tests. Review the information on this page before starting the test. Follow the Procedures to review the test prompts and record your responses.
