2012 was a “vintage” year for The Road Home Dane Country, in the sense that it was an outstanding year in the ways that matter most for our mission and those we serve. For example: • Following a national search, we welcomed Kristin Rucinski as our new Executive Director, and she immediately began to confirm the Board’s wise judgment in engaging her services. • With exceptionally generous gifts, we were able to complete our Housing & Hope Capital Campaign of $4.5 million dollars. • By mid-year, the 15 units needed for Phase II of Housing & Hope were identified and purchased; the necessary rehabilitation has begun, and homeless families will begin moving in later in 2013. • In April of 2012, long-held hopes were realized when we were able to add a housing program outside of the immediate Madison area. The Stoughton Second Chance Apartment Project now provides rent subsidies and case management services to five families in this nearby Dane County community. • We have again initiated a Tenant Advocacy Group (TAG) to advocate for homeless families in the public and legislative arenas.

• Once again, we met or exceeded nearly all of the goals of our 2012 strategic plan, and have clear plans in place for reaching the very few where we fell short. The Road Home served 140 total families, including 278 children in 2012, and 69 families gained additional income during the year. A vintage year, indeed!

I have recently concluded my second and final year as the President of the Board of Directors of The Road Home Dane County. It has been an honor I cherish to serve this magnificent agency in the presidential capacity. I have been awed and humbled by the superb skills of our exceptional staff, and by the truly remarkable generosity with both time and contributions of our many donors and volunteers. And if the truth be told, I can offer this kind of positive annual President’s Report with complete integrity only because of the sterling quality and unstinting effort of every member of The Road Home’s Board of Directors. As those who care deeply about The Road Home’s mission of battling the multiple devastations of homelessness, we can look forward to a year of growth and a modest expansion of staff and services. Together, we will continue to succeed in the pursuit of safe, affordable housing for all the children and families who need to finish their journey along The Road Home. With gratitude and appreciation,

David J. Michael, 2012 President The Board of Directors

From congregations hosting families to individuals providing tutoring, mentoring, moving, transportation, and other needed services, our volunteers have helped families to access resources, and build skills and relationships that set the stage for long-term success. Thanks to all who donated personal care items, furniture and household goods to our families. We thank you for your time, generosity and care.
