A new ticketing system for Budapest: Public transport in the cloud Scheidt & Bachmann and their subcontractor Octopus Transactions Ltd. from Hong Kong have collaborated to develop and implement an advanced ticketing system that is on par with the systems in Hong Kong, London and Chicago, which are leading world-wide. The project is considered one of the most ambitious IT development projects in Hungary. It will fundamentally change public transport in Budapest and make it more attractive.

ridership and revenue and strengthen the positive image of the Hungarian capital. The technological basis of this project is an ID-based system architecture. ID-based systems are already used successfully in many industries worldwide. The core principle of these systems is to move all the intelligence into a central background system (the “cloud”). For BKK, this means that all data and processes can be managed centrally and thus very efficiently. It allows the introduction of new concepts such as “best price calculation” and flexible pricing. The open system design allows the subsequent integration of future developments such as Open Payment or NFC technology.

The new concept concentrates on services, focused on high customer satisfaction: For the riders the system must be simple and user-friendly, while being fraud-resistant at the same time. BKK expects the modern ticketing system to both significantly increase Copyright 2016

Each passenger is connected by ID media with a personal or anonymous account that registers all transactions. Various contactless ID media can be assigned to each account, they are solely for identification of the passenger and contain no other ticket information. To make public transport as attractive as possible, it was important for BKK that different ID devices can be used simultaneously – depending on the requirements of each customer group. In addition to anonymous or personalised smart cards, contactless bank cards and any media that support the standard ISO 14443 can be used. This major project will be implemented in multiple phases and will be completed by the end of 2017.

FareGo Be-in/Be-out Ticketing App: Highest level of convenience in ticketing

The FareGo BiBo-App sets new standards in mobile ticketing and offers passengers convenience in public transportation they never experienced before. With FareGo BiBo-App searching for connections and appropriate tickets as well as the ticket purchase itself belong to the past.

take their smartphones out of their pockets. The FareGo BiBo-App ensures that all journeys are calculated and charged correctly, securely, reliably and, above all, fully automatically.

Transport providers can realise a completely dynamic fare system based on real-time location data for the very first time. Any parameters (weather, route, time of day) can be included to determine the price using the „real-time presence detection” in the vehicle.

Unlike normal ticketing apps, FareGo BiBo-App is not a shopping system for static ticket products. It actually turns any standard smartphone into an IDbased identification medium, which allows dynamic journey pricing in real-time.

The increasing use of smartphones with Bluetooth 4.0 (or newer) and the simple integration of BiBo modules into vehicles will allow a successful introduction of Be-in/Be-out ticketing with the FareGo BiBo-App.

ID-based Ticketing in the Netherlands: Next generation of OV-chipkaart Scheidt & Bachmann leads the Dutch OV-chipkaart fare collection system into a new era of technology. In close partnership with BlueBridge Transactions and Octopus Applications Limited the company advances the card-based system to an ID-based solution accepting EMV bank cards and other contactless identifiers for public transport throughout the Netherlands.

With more than 14 million active cards and over 60,000 devices active in the field, the Dutch fare collection system is an example for a multi operator, interoperable nationwide fare collection system. The system is based on an open architecture to ensure a multi-vendor policy.

Through a customer focused, phased approach the current clearing house system for card processing is migrated to a state-of-the-art platform, based on contactless identifiers. The EMV functionalities will be introduced in a pilot, followed by a full roll-out. Additional functionalities will include mobile payments and a customer website for managing the customers’ accounts. Besides the implementation of a next-generation backoffice system Scheidt & Bachmann provides comprehensive managed services for the new clearing house system.
