Upcoming Events...at the Patch

Downton Abbey The countdown to the new season of Downton Abbey began on December 7th when Patchwork Plus sponsored two preview parties at the Syracuse studios of PBS affiliate, WCNY. Thanks to Andover Fabrics for the wonderful trunk show.

LoveBug Studios has designed a new quilt based on Downton Abbey and invites you to join them in making the blocks for the quilt. What makes this a Mystery Quilt Along is that you will only see the quilt one block at a time so you won’t know exactly what you’re making until the very end. This is exciting for some, and fear-inspiring for others but rest assured the quilt is beautiful!

If you missed Doug Leko’s visit in November, you missed a special treat! Heather aptly summed up his visit when she said “We were Doug Leko fans before he came and now we can proudly say that we are his friends.” We think those who took his classes will agree! We wish Doug all the best as he begins his new full-time job with Moda and look forward to having him back next fall. We will publish the date of his next visit as soon as plans are finalized.

Quilt Camp will be moving in 2015. We were disappointed to learn that the Stella Maris retreat center will be closing and will be unavailable for quilt camp, as we all have fond memories of our times there. This year, we will meet at the Christ the King Retreat House and Conference Center in Syracuse, NY. The grounds are located in a secluded wooded area that is sure to inspire a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. Come join us. We have SO MUCH FUN. You get to spend quality quilting time with friends, with plenty of time to finish your projects and see some demos. You’ll have your meals prepared for you. And you can walk around the lovely grounds of Christ the King Retreat House. The Quilt Retreat will begin on Monday, May 4 and end at noon on Thursday, May 7, 2015. Christ the King Retreat House and Conference Center is located at 500 Brookford Road in Syracuse. Registration begins on Thursday, January 15, 2015. Beak & Skiff Apple Orchard is six miles east of the shop and in the fall offers apples, lunch, gift shop and wine tasting. Call us at 315-673-2208 to reserve a date. Page 3

January

Saturday, January 10, 10am-1pm The New Year always starts with sales on linens and home décor. Therefore, I’m starting the year by using the design of the month in some curtains for the shop. You might like to use it for some new throw pillows, a valance for the kitchen or bath, or for a table topper to brighten the space vacated by a holiday decoration. Come and enjoy!

February

Saturday, February 14, 10am-1pm Learn to use design templates and the actual pattern piece to get the exact embroidery placement while making a thread bag and pin cushion. The weighted pin cushion sits on the table and holds the bag to catch your thread snips as you sew. The bag pattern can also be used to create a little purse.

March

Saturday, March 14, 10am-1pm Get a handle on how to embroider on items with lots of seams and to use an embroidery product that lets you turn you embroidery design into a fusible applique. Learn these techniques and be the hit of the next potluck as you carry your dish in this very easy to make and clever embroidered carrier.

April

Saturday, April 11, 10am-1pm If you love chocolate, you will love these kitchen towels with embroidered chocolate recipes. The recipes are stitched with small letters that you will learn how to embroider successfully.

Bring your USB stick to get the free design.

The Knitting The Knitting Corner Corner Hopefully you finished all your knitted gifts for Christmas. But if you didn't there's always next year! Those of us who do handwork often plan to do more than humanly possible…at least I do and I always work close to deadlines. Knitting is a really good activity for the winter months, settle down in a comfortable spot and knit away. Check out the knitting classes being offered. Our Sale yarn is now located in the yarn department and there are always new additions. We seem to have very few newborn and infants hats being donated and would love to have more, they are a great way to use up leftover yarn.
