William Phipps’ first wife was Elizabeth Wheeler, a cousin of Hannah Laight’s mother (Diana Wheeler). Eliz Richards was a witness at their wedding. Elizabeth Wheeler died 25/8/1789 in Alcester and William Phipps married Anne Hill 6/10/1796 at Inkberrow. William and Ann Phipps had two children. Ann died 21/3/1803 at Inkberrow and William Phipps married Elizabeth Woodward (nee Richards) in 1804. Witnesses were Samuel Richards & Sophia Woodward. Sophia was the second wife of Joseph Woodward, who’d previously been married to Elizabeth Woodward’s sister, Sarah Richards.

The parish records for 1821 and 1825 show John as a Needlemaker. The 1841 census for Worcs. shows John as born “outside the county” . The 1851 census shows John and Hannah living at The Ridgeway. John is shown as aged 59, born in Alcester and Hannah is shown as born in Inkberrow. By 1861 John was a Road Labourer living with Hannah aged 78, Joseph aged 42 and David aged 36 - both Road Labourer’s and both unmarried. By 1871 John is a widower aged 78, living with his son, David aged 47.

The 1881 census shows William (age 34) as a Stone Mason and Harriett (age 34) a Seamstress, both living at 66 Manvers Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. By 1891 they were at 63 Manvers St. Ellen was a Lace Curtain Folder, Jane a Dress Maker and Harriett (dau) a Lace Joiner. William and Harriett (parents) are not on the 1901 census for Nottingham.

Ellen & Jane shown on 1901 census as living at 35 Stewart Place, Nottingham. Ellen was a Curtain Folder (age 29) and Jane a Dressmaker (age 27). In 1911 Ellen lived at 141 Windmill Lane, Nottm with cousins Samuel and William Godber and Mary Ann Godber, her aunt. Ellen was 39 yrs old - a curtain folder. Jane was not on the 1911 census, but may have married.

Thomas Joines (age 33) and Ann (age 36) shown on the 1851 census as living at Egiock, Inkberrow with Ellen (age 9) John (age 6) and George (age 4); all born at Inkberrow.

Ann and James Maclaland had seven children all born at Inkberrow. Joseph is shown on the 1851 census as an Agricultural Labourer (age 32) living at The Ridgeway with his parents and brother David (age 26), and on the 1861 census as a Road Labourer, also living with his parents and brother. By 1881 Joseph (62) and Ann (66) are shown at The Ridgeway, Dilworth Town, Inkberrow. The 1891 census shows Joseph as a widower, a boarder with John Owen at Evesham Rd, Sambourne, age 74.

John was a Labourer at the time of his marriage. He is shown on the 1851 census for Aston Cantlow - Alcester as a Labourer in a Stone Quarry. The 1861 census shows him as a Labourer in Wilmcote, born The Ridgeway, and the 1871 census shows the family as living at Wilmcote. By 1881 John was a Cooper living at Wilmcote. Ann is shown on the 1881 census as age 56 –Wife, and on the 1891 census at Wilmcote - a widow aged 66.

Henry is shown on the 1861 census as a Labourer, age 12, living at Wilmcote with his parents, and on the 1881 census as a Cooper living with Caroline at Vicarage Road, Oldbury, Worcs. Henry not shown on 1901 census but Caroline shown at Wellington Rd, Handsworth aged 49 (head— a widow) with Lewis (27), Will’m (21) Leonard (16) and Alice Harris (dau)(25) and Sam Norton, (22) servant from Burton, Staffs. In 1911 Caroline was running The Marine Drive Boarding House at Rhyll, Wales.

In 1911, Lewis a Cooper at 45 Stoneleigh Road, Handsworth aged 37.

Shown on 1851 Census as an Agricultural Labourer living with his parents at Inkberrow. The 1861 census shows him as a Road Labourer aged 36 living at Inkberrow with his parents. In 1871 he was living with his widowed father at Inkberrow, but by 1881 he’d moved to Cookhill, living as a lodger of Charles Dolphin. The 1901 census records him as a Road Labourer - single aged 76 living at the Alcester Poor Law Union Workhouse, Oversley. He died in the workhouse.

In 1881 Ellen was a housemaid at 210 Hagley Road, B’ham - working for Charles Maschaitz - a Hardware Merchant. The 1901 census shows her and William living at 40 Warley Road, Smethwick with their son. In 1911 they lived at 41 Warley Rd, Smethwick.

(Witnesses: John Lewis & Eliz Ann Stephens.) John was shown on the marriage certificate as a Carpenter aged 28, from Smethwick. Fanny is shown as being aged 21. The 1901 census shows them living at 328 Bearwood Road, Smethwick

Hannah Elizabeth Woodward born. 23/3/1865 Wilmcote. bap. 14/5/1865 Wilmcote. In 1881 Hannah worked as a General Domestic Servant for Ellen Thompson (a property owner) at 45 Mary Street, Birmingham. Mrs Thompson also had a lodger in the house - Frederick George Gibson, a Bank Clerk, aged 21 from Stanley Common, Derbyshire. Hannah is shown on the 1901 census living at 322 Hagley Road, Birmingham aged 36, a housemaid.

Joseph’s second marriage was to Sophia Woodbine in Alcester 19/10/1801. Witness’s were Elizabeth Woodward and Edmund Scrambler. (Joseph shown as a Widower, Sophia as a Spinster). Sophia was a witness at marriage of Elizabeth Woodward (nee Richards) and William Phipps in 1804, as was Samuel Richards. Sophia died 8/5/1838 Coughton, aged 59.
