Types of Services The ACLU-CT generally files cases that affect the civil liberties of large numbers of people, rather than those involving a dispute between two parties.

The CBA does not have practicing attorneys on staff to offer legal advice, assistance or materials. However, they encourage members of the public to consult the list of participating agencies on their website and contact them directly if pro bono legal services are needed. The mission of the Connecticut Fair Housing Center is to ensure that all people have equal access to housing opportunities in Connecticut. Because Connecticut’s low-income residents are particularly affected by discriminatory housing practices, the Center devotes its scarce resources principally to assisting Connecticut’s low-income residents. Connecticut Legal Services is a private, non-profit, civil law firm dedicated to helping low-income families and individuals obtain justice. Types of Services Offices in Bridgeport, Derby, Stamford and Hartford. Services include preparation for naturalization, adjustment of status, visa processing, political asylum, assistance for violence against women, and family reunification assistance. Low cost legal assistance and court representation may also be available for asylum cases, cancellation of removal cases, adjustment of status, change of venues and voluntary departures, and other immigration legal issues.

If you are seeking legal advice or assistance, you may contact the Lawyer Referral Service of your local County Bar Association.

The Lawyer Referral Service is a public service provided by the New Haven County Bar Association. The LRS does not provide legal advice. The LRS client will receive the name and telephone number of a private attorney. It is that individual’s responsibility to contact the attorney and make the appointment for the consultation. This service may be fee based.

Statewide Legal Services is a telephone hotline helping callers with legal problems in Connecticut including family, employment, public benefits, housing and consumer problems like bankruptcy. There is no charge for their services, but they can only help people with very low income. Hotline Call-In hours: 9 a.m. - 12 noon, 1-3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday; Wednesdays: 1-3 p.m.
