INTRODUCTION AND THANKS We give praise to God our Heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. To our highly esteemed, dynamic and spiritually impacting leader of our State Convention, Dr. L. C. McMillian and his staff; to our most efficient, elegant, eloquent and effective President of our State Congress, Dr. Foster C. Woodrick and his staff; to all officers, messengers, friends and constituents of this 64th Annual Session of the Alabama Missionary Baptist State Congress of Christian Education, good afternoon. It is good for us to be here. We come not to erect 3 tabernacles for anyone; but we come to give due praise to the one God who is Lord of us all. And again that one Lord has been good to me. "I don't serve Him as I should. I don't deserve all of His good. So many things are not as they should be, but God is still good to me!" What about you? Let me first thank Rev. Dr. Jonathan McPherson for another brilliant introduction. Done as only he can do it. Dr. Winfred Hope said, "It's getting so that some introductions are better than the speeches that follow.” Well, if that's true don't blame the introducer. It's not his fault. Every preacher ought to like a good introduction. It may be the last time he hears good things said about him. I extend sincere thanks and appreciations to you all for this another opportunity to serve you as Dean. I am still deeply humbled by the fact that I stand before one of the most impacting organizations for Christian Education in this world today. I thank God for President McMillian who already set a sure course for our Convention and has a firm grip on the helm. I thank God for President Emeritus Dr. Julius R. Scruggs, who has proven himself a great leader and is still showing himself to be a friend. I thank God for President Woodrick for his vibrant, yet patient and compassionate, yet firm leadership of this Congress. I thank him for allowing me to survive the trauma of leadership change, and choosing me to serve him as Dean of the Congress. I pray that I will serve him and this congress in a manner that's pleasing to God and Him.
INITIATIVES 2003-2007 In 2003 1. A first time COP school was built into our Congress Curriculum. Christian Educators all over our state are earning their C.O.P.'s faster and thereby certifying more leaders, accrediting more Congresses and raising the level of Christian Education all over our state. 2. A first time 2-year graduation eligibility was instituted. This has inspired more people to continue to pursue their Christian Education goals and has increased attendance on Graduation Day and the Congress as a whole. Last year's graduation 12
set a record for our congress. 3. The Alabama State Deans Network was organized as an auxiliary to the Deans Office. And under the capable and energetic presidership of Dr. Walter Bracy, the Network has coordinated and facilitated the work of Deans all over our state and has helped increase the number of certified deans, certified teachers, accredited leadership schools in our state and helped enhance the attendance at our State Congress each year. Through the efforts of the Deans Network, more and more pastors are seeking certification and becoming teachers in our leadership schools and congresses. Last year (2005), Dean Charles Delaine was successful in implementing a Pastor's Alternative School (25 pastors seeking certification). 4. The 5-day Congress was recommended and has evolved, allowing C.O.P. courses and registration for other congress messengers on Monday. In 2004 1. More youth courses were added to the curriculum, to attract and hold more youth. 2. The "Dean of the Year Award was presented and has inspired more Deans in the work. 3. Computer and Homiletics Courses were offered to our ministers. In 2005 1. We continued to proceed with the aforementioned initiatives that were already in progress. In 2006 1. A Pastors Alternative Instructor Certification was successfully instituted. Forty-one (4I) pastors from across our state participated and completed the Course. Congratulations pastors. 2. Certified District Deans were enlisted and are now serving as Departmental Deans to help build and monitor curriculum, and expedite the work 0 the State Dean.
This year 2007 1. The Recertification Course #2097 - "Rethinking Christian Education is being taught - A must for all instructors needing to be recertified (Dr. Jonathan McPherson, teacher). 2. A Specialization Course -#SP004I- "Christian Education Ministering to the Whole Church" is being taught, for those who have gone beyond COP Program and are seeking a Certificate of Specialization in Christian Education (Dr. Edsel M. Davis, teacher). 13
RECOMMENDATION: 2008 1. That the Pastors Alternative Phase II be instituted. 2. That the Congress begin, officially, on Monday of the week (a five day Congress). All of these initiatives and recommendations are designed, not only to grow our State Congress, but also to enhance the quality of Christian Education, throughout the State of Alabama.
THANKS AGAIN! I thank the Dean's office staff for the excellent job they do. They are a nerve center of efficiency, proficiency, sufficiency and consistency under the able management of our Asst. Dean, Dr. Stevenson Tullis, Administrative Assistant, Sis. Dorothy McAdory, Administrative Assistant Dr. John Tucker, and Bro. Lee G. Wilson, our C.O.P. School Coordinator. I thank the Deans' Network of Alabama (an auxiliary of the State Dean's Office) for doing a telling job this year promoting the cause of the State Congress and Christian Education, year round (Dr. Walter Bracy president). I thank Jefferson County District Association and Congress for 22 years of service as their Dean and supporting me in this congress. I thank the Beulah Baptist Church, Bessemer, Dr. C. D. Patterson, pastor, for their support. I thank the Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where there is always "Hope in the House". And last, but not least, I thank my ever loving wife, who supports me in all my endeavors, such that I have learned to know that if I grabbed a bull by the horns, Sis. Colvin would grab his tail.
IN MEMORIAM Let us pause to remember our sainted dead. They are gone but not forgotten.
THE STEWARDSHIP ACCOUNT I come now to give an account of my stewardship as Dean for the year 2006-2007. We attended all of the affiliated meetings of Christian Education; the December Conference of Christian Education, December 2006; Our State Sunday School Board meeting in March, 2007; Our State Deans' Network Workshop, February 2007; the National Congress of Christian Education, June2007. We visited other local congresses of the state and can report that Christian Education in Alabama is on the move - onward, upward, outward! Our State Congress is accredited, positions are filled and we are ready to serve. 14
Now, I come to give account of my stewardship of the gospel. Thanks to Dr. Stevenson Tullis for his vivid exposition of the theme on yesterday. I shall endeavor to treat it. In treating the theme, let us turn to two places; the Book of Psalms, Psalms I37 verses I-3 and Ephesians 5:I7-20. Our theme for this year: "The Music of the Church". Our subject for today: "Singing the Lord's Songs". THE MESSAGE “SINGING THE LORD’S SONGS” THE HEAVENLY VISION Which the Apostle Paul experienced on the Damascus Road, revealed to Paul a three-fold phenomenon. It revealed "the master of the church, the message of the Church and the music of the Church. God revealed the role of music in the church, because music is important to God. God did not marry music to the gospel, but he did bring them together. No; music is not the spouse of God's word but it is an espouser of it. Music is not the gospel, but a servant of the gospel. The word of God is often born on the wings of song, telling dying men that Jesus saves. Music is important to God, and God has made music to be In fact, the music of the church preceded the church of the music. When Paul told the Church of Ephesus what to sing, the Lord's songs were already being sung centuries before the Christian church was born. Singing played a prominent part in the worship and national life of the Hebrew people. The Jews composed songs to celebrate their religions experiences and special victories. The entire Book of Psalms is called the "Song Book of Israel." Moses is the first known composer of songs. God commanded and authorized his compositions. And Moses' songs became "The Lord's Songs." But it was King David, the sweet singer of Israel, who first organized music as a service in the temple. Not only did David compose and start the singing of Psalms but he invented instruments of music which he made to praise the Lord (II Chron. 7:6) That's why he could exalt in Psalms I50 - "Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet - with the psaltery and harp stringed instruments and organs - with cymbals, all kinds of cymbals" "Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord" (Heb.-"Hallelujah"). Out of 30,000 temple workers, David chose 4000 for the music service. When Solomon finished his temple he employed 2000 singers in the choir. And the songs that they sang were the Psalms of David and Moses. They were the Lord’s Songs. Consequently, it is not strange that years after, when God's people (Jews) were exiled into a foreign land, they went into captivity carrying the Lord's songs in their hearts. But what is 15
strange is when their captors requested them, commanded them, saying "Sing us one of the songs of Zion.” They answered, "How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?” Now, notice, the captives did not say we cannot sing, but they said "we shall not sing."
WHY NOT? They had what they needed. They had the Lord's Songs in their hearts. They had their musical instruments to accompany themselves. Why wouldn't they sing one of the Songs of Zion? Well, their reply revealed 3 conditions that existed, which kept them from singing the Lord's Song. (I) They were in the wrong place (2) They were in the wrong attitude (3) They were in the wrong spirit. Their captors requested "Sing us one of the songs of the Holy City. One of the songs of the temple!! The captives replied, No! How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land (i.e., in a foreign land). My friends, the Zion of old is the church of today. And away from the city of God (the church), away from the House of God, away from the worship and praise of God is a strange place to be. And a strange land can silence the song of God in us. A strange land can put us in the wrong place, the wrong attitude, and in the wrong spirit for singing the Lord's songs. There are 3 times the Lord's songs shall not be sung.
I. IN THE WRONG PLACE The Lord's song shall not be sung. Because the wrong people in the wrong place can't understand the Lord's song. Their Babylonian captives didn't know what they were asking for, when they asked for a song of Zion. They didn't understand what the songs of Zion were. They didn't understand where they came from. They didn't understand what they meant to the people of God! They thought they were asking for entertainment. Some music they could dance by - make merry or be amused. Something to bring some fun or frolic into their lives. They didn't know they were asking for the Lord's songs-the music of the church!! No wonder God's people wouldn't sing. It would have been incongruous - i.e. unfitting - out of place, in that place. It would have been ridiculous to sing the Lord's song in the wrong place. In contrast to the church of God, the world is a strange land. The world and its worldliness - its entertainment seeking mentality - is the wrong place for singing the Lord's songs. Church music means too much to God, to be used for the entertainment and pleasure seeking 16
purposes of this world. The entertainment industry needs to understand that church music is sacred music, composed by the Lord; inspired by the words of God, written and arranged by Holy men who wrote as the spirit of God moved them to write.
Church music today is originated by church people - music that worships God, - praises God - music that exalts him and not us ourselves! It is music of God, by God, for God. The music of the church (the Lord's song) is the same music that Moses and David sang. You see, man might add the melody but God dictates the lyrics. Miriam led the singing, but Moses wrote God's word. It is an outpouring of the feelings of God's people - of their victories, their defeat, their suffering and triumph and their response to their all - powerful, all- knowing, ever present God. In trouble, they might sing, "I Know The Lord Will Make A Way Somehow". In triumph they might sing, "Victory Is Mine ....”. But its all to the glory of God. The Lord's songs are sung to glorify God, not man. Not to be used for self-gain, selfaggrandizement - to show off our vocal gifts or instrumental talent. Music of the church belongs in the church ... elsewhere it's out of place. In Concert Halls, it's out of place; in competitions, it's out of place; in commercializing, it's out of place. Today we are marketing church music along beside rhythm and blues. Gospel music night clubs are built by entertainers now, and gospel and hip hop are being programmed together. I heard a public announcement recently about a church affair. It said, "Come to our "Hattietude" - see our beautiful hats and enjoy music by the Jazz Quintet". And I wondered, Am I invited to a church event or to a Juke-Joint. Nowadays - it's hard to tell church music from any other. That’s because so much "stealing" is going on, between church music and worldly music. And we wonder who is influencing who. More music has been carried out of the church, than been carried in. Blues singers sing about the "Blues" and its beginnings. They say: "From a whippowill out on a hill they took a blue note; pushed it through a horn until it was born into a new note. Then they nursed it, rehearsed it and then gave out the news that the southland gave birth to the blues." But our church music history records, that black hymn singers adapted the hymns of Isaac Watts to their own spirituals. They flatted the 7th step of their pentatonic scale (making the "blue note"); then jazz musicians used the sound they got; and they sang it, played it and then called it the "blues". They took it out of church into the night clubs, but they brought it back into the church. That is why much of what we hearing in churches today, is "nothing but the blues. But the Apostle Paul advised the church, Be not conformed to this world. But be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. Trouble with our young today. They are more impacted by the music outside the church, than the music inside the church. But when the church starts stealing music from the world we just confirming. When it comes to our music, it seems we would rather copy than compose. 17
But by the power of an ever progressive God, what we call church music has come a mighty long way. Much of it has gone to the wrong place-"off on the deep end". And we are caused to wonder, "where do go from here? Paul advised, "Sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs" - these were the Lord's songs.
"Church music" has evolved from the psalms of David, to hymns of Isaac Watts of black people, to spiritual songs to gospels of Dorsey, to contemporary gospel of Ed. Hawkins, to gospel "pop" of Andre Crouch. And now to R&B, Soul Pop, Christian Rap, Jazz, Jazz Funk and now "Hip-hop" is threatening our sanctuaries. (Flirters with church music like Al Green, going from gospel to soul and back again!! And it is time the church be careful!! Just because it's called gospel music doesn't mean it's a "good-news" bearer. And when it does not glorify God, it is not the Lord's song. If the lyrics are not doctrinally sound, it's not the Lord's song. If the church of God is marching, I shall not be moved. - no!! It's not the Lord's song. If I could "shake the devil off", I wouldn't need to pray. If it's not doctrinally sound, theologically correct, then it's not the Lord's song; and should not be sung in church. The Lord's song shall not be song, secondly,
II IN THE WRONG ATTITUDE, The captives in Babylon did not sing. Their attitudes wouldn't let them. They were afraid, frustrated, feeling forsaken and far away from God. They were reaping the consequences of their sins in a far country. Their guilt, their regret would not permit them to sing. Their sadness would not let them sing songs of Joy. Repentance sheds briny tears, instead of singing songs. If they had sung at all, they would have sung the blues. All they could do was hang up their harps on the willow trees; sit down and weep. -Hanging Harps and Heavy Harps (wrong attitude) will silence the songs of God. If we come to worship, other than to worship God, we're in the wrong attitude. He said, where two or three are gathered in my name (in the right attitude) I'll be there in the midst. But if attitude is wrong and he's not there, no need trying to sing his songs. If we're not touching and agreeing in unity, we can't sing, "What a fellowship what a joy divine leaning on the everlasting arms! And finally, if we're
III. IN THE WRONG SPIRIT, We shall not sing the Lord's song Paul said, when we are in the Right Spirit, we will sing the Lord's song. And that spirit is the Holy Spirit. We cannot sing it - in another spirit. In the spirit of disobedience we cannot sing! In the spirit of darkness and fornication we cannot sing the Lord's song. If we walk in the spirit of darkness we cannot sing the songs of light. If we walk in the spirit of hate we cannot sing the songs of love. If we sing at all, we'll only sing the Blues. 18
But I heard Paul say Eph. 5: there are times when we shall sing the Lord's song. When we walk in the spirit of Christ, when we walk in the spirit of Love, when we walk in the spirit of Thanksgiving, when we walk in the spirit of Light, when we walk as wise and not as fools, when we walk a walk that church folk should walk; we'll be walking in the Right Spirit - the Holy Spirit. And you'll know when you're in Him. Because when he comes we can sing!! When he comes we can sing right! We can sing with the spirit (Paul says) and with understanding, too. Understanding the will of God - (what he wants us to say - and do!) And when the spirit comes, we'll be singing the right songs - we will sing the Lord's songs! And when we sing the Songs of Zion, it means the spirit is here! We are in him. He is in us! I heard the Apostle say, "And be not drunk with wine (that's just useless indulging in pleasure), but be ye filled with the spirit. And when we're filled with the spirit we can sing the Lord's songs. We can sing Psalms! Hymns! Spirituals, too! And as we sing the Lord's songs, we'll be singing from our hearts to God. We'll be glorifying God and loving one another, too!! And there are times when we should sing the Lord's song. There are times when we need to sing the Lord's song. There are times when no other song will do. "Rap" - cannot rescue me from my woes. "Hip-Hop" - cannot help heal the heartaches. "POP" won't ease the pain. And Soul surely can't save!! But the Lord's songs are therapeutic - panacea for every need. Sam Cooke was right. Songs (the Lord's song) do have a feeling (function). There's a story in every song that we sing. Songs have been known to lift heavy burdens, if all of our troubles to God we'd only bring. And if you are a Christian, you ought not to be ashamed, to lift your voices in Jesus name, you ought to be able to sing, the Lord's song! Are you able to sing! To sing the Lord's song. I'm glad I'm able. Because there are times I need Him. hat's all the time. And when I do I don't mind confessing, I need thee every hour most gracious Lord. No tender voice like thine can peace afford. And there are times when seem all other help has failed, then I have to pray, "Father, I stretch my hands to thee no other help I know. If thou withdraw thy self from me oh whither shall I go"? And when I'm through praying, my faith still sing out - "I know the Lord will make a way, yes, He will"!! Won't he do it? And when the answer comes, I can shout "Victory is mine ....! But then, I still have need to worship Him - Praise Him for what he's done for me. And when I think how he stepped down thro 42 generations. Born - Lived - Preached - Boat - Gave his life for me - Died on Calvary. Left upper room singing a hymn (Nearer My God To Thee. Even tho it be a cross that raises me!) When I think, I have to sing - "Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone" and all the world go free? No..!! And he died until the cemeteries ... , sun ... , moon ... , died till God was glorified, sinners .. justified, justice .. satisfied and a centurion cried truly ..... But when they buried him in a borrowed grave - Early .... He rose - All power ... Because I know he rose-I can sing with conviction; I can sing with Joy, He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today - He walks with me.... talks with me, Does he walk with you? How do you know? I know - Because He lives in my soul! And Because He lives - I can face tomorrow...... Because He lives all fear is gone - Because He lives I got a 19
rock.... shelter.... friend..... That's why I thank Him! That's why I praise Him! I love to testify His goodness! "I love to tell the story”. Twill be my theme in glory..... And this is my story this is my song praising all the day long". Praising Jesus (my waymaker Jesus) (my bread provider!) Do you have a story? ... a song? Tell it! Sing it! Praise him - praise him all the day long!! ************************************************************************************ A love offering was given. Announcements by President Woodrick, Benediction by Dean Colvin.

WORDS OF APPRECIATION Let me express my thanks to this Congress for having elected me as your president and for your fidelity, love, fellowship and follow ship, and for your prayers during this past year. During the first year of my tenure, you have given me wonderful support. It was due to the providence of God that I ran unopposed. No other candidate decided to qualify for the office so; I choose to say that I was chosen by God for the office after he had groomed me by a lifetime of service to Him and His work. To those of you who are involved in all areas of our work, I am most grateful. VicePresident Mims has been available and he is industrious. Vice-President Pettaway is multi-talented and works untiringly promoting the work of the Congress in any area to which he is assigned. Dean Colvin administers the curriculum of our congress with vigor, enthusiasm and an expertise born of his many years of experience. We are servants together for Christ and thankful for the longevity that God has given us. I love you all. Even when there are mistakes and disappointments, I still love you.
IN MEMORIAM The grim reaper has come into our midst and taken some away, to that land on a far away strand. But precious memories of them still live in our hearts. “When Peace like a river attendest my way, and sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot thou has taught me to say it is well, it is well with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control; that Christ has regarded my helpless estate and has shed his own blood for my soul. It is well, with my soul, Yes it is well, it is well with my soul”

THE BIBLICAL CHARGE FOR CHRISTIAN EDUCATION Matthew 28:19, 20 As we look at our society today, we see many negatives: poverty, unemployment, racism, social injustice, drug addiction and abuse, suicide, crime, child abuse, abuse of the elderly, gangs, and corruption in public office, just to name a few. It seems that society today has twisted the Golden Rule. Their version seems to be “He who has the gold makes rules.” Sadly this seems to be playing out every day in our courts, in our political venues and in businesses all over this country. If you have money, you have a bargaining chip to do basically whatever you want, and those who are not as well off are left with nothing. The result: An uncaring, indifferent, selfish society, where it’s “ALL ABOUT ME” and “NOT ABOUT YOU”. The rich are becoming richer and the poor and middle class are struggling to survive. Today when some people do wrong, they call it “a lifestyle”, or “just a little sin”, or “none of your business”, or “it’s not that bad – everyone else does it”. The people who are trying to live right are being ridiculed for being old-fashioned. Those who try and stand up for justice are being knocked down or scared silent.
THE QUESTION What is the answer to these negatives and the problems that plague our society today?
THE ANSWER I submit to you that Christian Education is the remedy for these problems and that it can be a stabilizing force for humankind.
THE PROOF If you were interested in the origin, development and varieties of human beings and their societies, you would study ANTHROPOLOGY. If you were interested in the scientific study of former human life and activities through material remains such as artifacts and buildings, you would study ARCHAEOLOGY. If you wanted to know something about the production distribution and consumption of the wealth and the means of supplying the material needs of mankind, you would study ECONOMICS.
26
If you were interested in the study of human behavior, the science of the human mind, you would study PSYCHOLOGY. If you wanted to inquire into the most comprehensive principles of reality in general, the causes and principles underlying being and thinking, you would study PHILOSOPHY. If you were interested in the origin and evolution of human society, the progress of civilization and the laws controlling human institutions and functions you would study SOCIOLOGY. If you were interested in the philosophy and science of law and its administration, you would study JURISPRUDENCE. If you were interested in the science and art of diagnosing, treating and preventing disease, you would study MEDICINE. If you were interested in the earth’s history, composition and structure, you would study GEOLOGY. If you wanted to learn to design, construct and operate the structures, machines and other devices of industry and everyday life, you would study ENGINEERING. If you were interested in the structure, composition and properties of substances and their transformations, you would study CHEMISTRY. If you were interested in the discipline that seeks to build a scientific foundation for a variety of topics, including computer design, computer programming, information processing, algorithmic solutions of problems and the algorithmic process it self, you would study COMPUTER SCIENCE. If you were curious about the art of producing significant arrangements of sounds, with reference to rhythm, pitch and tone color, you would study MUSIC. These disciplines and others comprise a secular education which is to be desired in our world today. But a secular education won’t get you to Heaven. If you want to know how to get to Heaven, you must study the Bible and major in CHRISTIAN EDUCATION. Christian Education is the abolition of ignorance. It is informing men and women about God, His will and His ways through preaching and teaching. Preaching is a monologue aimed at the heart to bring about belief. Teaching is a dialogue aimed at the head to bring about understanding. We Christian educators are seeking to abolish ignorance of the Word of God, which seem to be prevalent in our society today. If men and women want to know how God wants to deal with them, they must learn how he has dealt with men and 27
women down through the ages; and the only way to learn how God has dealt with men and women down through the ages is to read and study the Bible. A decrease in reading is an increase in ignorance. This world stands in the need of a spiritual awakening and it will only experience that awakening as the people of the world become more and more involved in Christian Education. We have a biblical mandate for Christian Education. Jesus said, “Go ye therefore and teach.” Jesus set the example for Christian Education with his disciples; He trained them, nurtured and taught them. He kept them with him twenty four hours a day, seven days a week for three years and they all graduated Summa Cum Laude – except Judas – and that’s a good percentage. When new converts come aboard today we Christian Educators must not go to sleep at the wheel. We must remember that once we obtain them, if we are to retain them we must train them.
MUSIC Music is a vital segment of Christian Education. It is important for us to consider the music of the church because we are a musical people. Music is ESSENTIAL in our praise and worship of God. Yet Satan can harm us with music.
THE MUSIC OF THE WORLD There was a time when certain words were counted to be vulgar and were not used in polite conversation. Those words have now found their way into the music of the world and into the entertainment business. The denigration of black womanhood has been ongoing since we came to this country. Why should some seek to perpetuate it and get rich doing it? I say to you there is a way to shut down the vulgar music entertainment industry. The way to shut it down is to have our children STOP buying vulgar CDs.
THE MUSIC OF THE CHURCH The music of the church should be God-centered. The church should not sound like the world; the world should sound like the church. We need to let the Will of God take control of our music. “Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for things unto God and the Father in the name of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.”
28
“Spiritual Songs” means that the words are sacred and have a biblical basis. We must remember that we can sing all we want but the world is watching the way we walk. “See them that ye walk circumspectly.” It is good to shout but we shouldn’t jump any higher than we live. Church music ought to agree with the Word of God. Church music should exalt and magnify God. It ought to glorify God. With our music we should praise and celebrate Him. Hymns, anthems, traditional gospel and contemporary gospel music all have their place in our praise and worship of our God. “Amazing Grace” is a song of Praise. “I Need Thee Every Hour” is a prayer. “Lord, For Every Mountain you’ve brought me over For Every Trial You’ve Seen Me Through; For Every Blessing, Hallelujah For This I Give You Praise.” But I reckon that the singing we do down here is just a rehearsal for what we’re going to do in Glory. When we get to heaven, one of the things we are going to do is sing. We’re going to join that heavenly choir. The four and twenty elders clothed in white raiment with crowns of gold on their heads. Seated around about the Throne of God and the four beasts, singing without rest. Continuously singing. Always singing. Giving glory, honor and thanks to God. Singing “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty.” May God bless and keep you is my prayer. ************************************************************************************ A motion was made that Dr. Woodrick’s address would become the sentiment of the Congress and become part of the record. The motion was unanimously approved. Remarks were made by Reverend J. S. Rowser and Dr. Jonathan McPherson. Greetings were extended by Dr. Gertie M. Lowe, President, Alabama Baptist Women’s State Convention. Announcements were made and the benediction was offered by Dr. Julius R. Scruggs. THURSDAY AFTERNOON 1:00 – 6:00 PM 3:00 – 4:00 PM
